Applying for a Schengen Visa from India? Here’s the Latest Fee Update

schengen-visa-from-india

Let’s cut the fluff.

If you’re planning a trip to Europe and you’re Indian, the Schengen visa is your entry pass. But how much does it really cost?

When I first applied, I thought, “Okay, maybe ₹6–7k and I’m good to go.”
Wrong. I ended up spending more — not because of any scam or hidden trap, just because no one clearly explained what’s involved.

So if you're applying from India, here’s a simple, no-jargon guide on what you’ll really pay — written from experience, not Google.

What is a Schengen Visa?

In short:
One visa. 27 countries.
France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands — all included.

It’s a short-stay visa. You can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. It works whether you’re going for a vacation, short course, family visit, or business trip.

Here’s the Official Visa Fee (2025 Rates)

The “Other” Costs Nobody Tells You

This part caught me off guard. Apart from the main visa fee, here’s what you’ll most likely pay:

  • VFS service charge: ₹1,400–₹2,000

  • Travel insurance: Mandatory. Mine cost ₹1,000 for 15 days

  • Flight & hotel bookings: You’ll need these for your application (even dummy ones cost something)

  • Courier/SMS updates: Optional, but useful. Adds ₹300–₹400

  • Translations or notary: Only if needed, but still a cost

So yes, the €90 visa ends up costing most Indians around ₹11,000–₹13,000 total.

Do Some People Pay Less?

Yep. If you’re in one of these groups, you might get a discount or pay nothing at all:

  • Kids under 6 = free

  • Students with official EU scholarships

  • Researchers attending events

  • Family of EU/EEA citizens (conditions apply)

But don’t assume. Always double-check with the embassy or your visa advisor.

How Do You Pay?

You pay the fee when you submit your application — usually at VFS Global.

Payment methods?
Cash or card, depending on the center.
And no, you don’t get a refund if your visa is rejected. Just being honest.

We make sure your application is done right — the first time.
